What to Know Before You Buy: Little Buck or Little Bull Loaders for John Deere X700 Series

Little Bull Loader on JD X700 Series

The John Deere X700 series is a powerful and versatile line of lawn tractors, and one of the most popular platforms we support at Little Buck Loader. If you own an X700 or are considering purchasing a loader for one, here’s everything you need to know to ensure a smooth and successful setup with either our Little Buck or Little Bull front-end loader.

Why X700 Tractors Are Ideal for Front-End Loaders

The X700 series offers:

  • A powerful frame and transmission system

  • 4 quick-connect hydraulic outlets

  • A strong engine with a reliable PTO

  • Excellent traction and maneuverability, especially in 4WD models

This makes the X700 series a fantastic match for our Little Buck Loader or Little Bull Loader, both of which are built to tackle real work like moving dirt, gravel, mulch, and snow.

Key Considerations When ATTACHING aN FEL TO Your X700

To ensure peak performance and long-term durability, there are a few technical details and optional upgrades to keep in mind.

1. Pressure Relief Valve Upgrade

If you tend to drive your X700 hard, especially in low-traction situations, it’s possible to damage the transmission without proper pressure relief. If your wheels are not spinning and your engine is fully engaged in forward, excessive pressure can build up.

Our recommendation:

  • Replace the pressure relief valve if you push your tractor hard

  • If you're a more careful driver, this may not be necessary

2. Cutoff Valve Replacement

Some customers have reported improved implement performance by replacing the factory cutoff valve. While not required, it may help make loader operation more efficient.

3. Flow Control Valve Tips

If your X700 doesn't include a flow control valve, you have two options:

  • Purchase one from your local John Deere dealer

  • Or, simply raise your mowing deck to its highest setting during loader operation

This helps avoid hydraulic lag and keeps performance smooth when using both the mower and loader simultaneously.

Don't Forget Your Ballast Weight

Adding a front-end loader increases the need for rear ballast to keep your tractor balanced and safe.

We strongly recommend pairing your loader with one of the following:

These accessories help protect your transmission and improve traction while operating under load.

Special Notes for 2021 & Newer X700 Models

If your X700 was built in 2021 or later, there are a few important bracket adjustments:

Key Differences:

  • A new oil drain plug location interferes with the standard bracket position

  • 4-wheel steer models include an additional tie rod that affects clearance

Solution: We include a specialized bracket at no additional cost with your Little Buck or Little Bull Loader order. Just be sure to select your tractor year in the drop-down menu at checkout so we send you the correct parts.
