How to Replace a Cylinder on Your Little Bull Loader

Even with the toughest equipment, wear and tear can happen over time. Every so often, a hydraulic cylinder may fail and need replacement. Fortunately, swapping it out on your Little Bull Loader is a quick and straightforward process, just a few tools and a little know-how, and you’ll be back to work in no time. This video walks you through the process.

What You’ll Need

  • 11/16" wrench

  • 9/16" wrench

  • Replacement cylinder

  • A clean rag to catch any hydraulic fluid drips

Step-by-Step: Replacing the Cylinder

1. Identify Which Cylinder Needs Replacing

Start by determining whether it’s the left or right cylinder that needs to be replaced; the steps differ slightly for each side.

2. Prepare Your Work Area

Park your tractor on a flat surface, turn off the engine, and lower the loader to the ground. This relieves hydraulic pressure and ensures safety while you work.

3. Disconnect the Hydraulic Fittings

Use your 11/16" and 9/16" wrenches.

  • Hold the 9/16" fitting steady while you loosen the universal fitting using the 11/16" wrench.

  • Unscrew both fittings from the old cylinder.

4. Transfer the Fittings to the New Cylinder

Take the fittings you just removed and install them on the new cylinder, tightening them securely.

  • For the left-side cylinder, simply reconnect the universal fittings you removed earlier.

  • For the right-side cylinder, unscrew the 9/16" fittings on either side of the T-connectors and reconnect them to the new cylinder.

5. Tighten and Test

Once everything is reconnected and tightened, raise and lower the loader a few times to check for smooth operation and leaks. Wipe away any residual fluid and you’re done.

Tips for a Smooth Replacement

  • A small amount of hydraulic fluid loss is normal; have a rag handy.

  • If you notice any persistent leaks after replacement, double-check your fitting tightness.

  • Always use replacement parts designed specifically for the Little Bull Loader to ensure proper fit and function.
